The Crazies are as savage and unrelenting as the movie they inhabit. One of those few zombie movies that isn’t a zombie movie. With an outbreak of a sinister virus, a small town is turned upside down by its newly insane citizens and stomped on by the boot of the invading military who are exterminating any survivors. In the middle are Timothy Olyphant, Rhada Mitchell, Joe Anderson and Danielle Panabaker who are just trying to make their way to safety.
A remake of an old George Romero movie, (where else would you go to mine for more zombie-like material?), the Crazies is non-stop action and great popcorn fun. While Olyphant and Mitchell deliver their standard of good solid performances and Danielle Panabaker could have used a few more minutes screen time, it was Joe Anderson who stole the movie. His role of deputy Russell has put him on the radar. More than a two dimensional character, Anderson plays Russell as a hero, a villain, vulnerable and scary, extremely likable and sympathetic.
Hardcore violence and drama rabid; the movie was crazy!
