Trolling for Trailers: Disney’s Tangled

I know, I know. This is hardly common fare for Fancore material… but I’m a Disney fan (Classic Disney, not their more recent stuff), and when I see something that looks like it might turn out to be good… well, I get my hopes up. So here it is, a reason for hope; Tangled.

Hot on the heels of two financially, and one critically successful Disney Princess themed films (The Not-So-Great Princess and the Frog, and the Incredibly-Awesome Enchanted), they’re at it again. This time, the target is the classic tale of Rapunzel.

Now, before you go clicking away on to other things, hear me out. See, what makes this foray into fairytale land interesting is the male lead. As the trailer explains, he’s some sort of thief; a roguish fellow, with smoldering charm and deft hands. Reminds me of an old space pirate you may have heard of… Han Solo? And to top it off, the character is voiced by Zachary Levi(Chuck, from…well… Chuck). That, and the top notch animation(although I’d prefer classical 2D to 3D) are helping me to get those hopes up. I’m gonna be real upset if Disney lets me down again… but see for yourself and let us know what you think in the comments below.

I’m hopeful for this movie as well. This has been Glen Keane’s baby for years and I’m glad to see that it is finally coming out. The animation does look great, which I come to expect from Keane, one of Disney’s best animators. (Ariel, the Beast – to name just a couple!) Keane said that he wants to use CG differently than other productions, keeping the main principles of traditional animation in tact. That sounds good to me!

Keep in mind that after Princess and the Frog didn’t do as well as Disney hoped, the marketing department opted to focus the lead male in the trailer and promotional material in order to attract more guys. This is still a princess movie and I’m not sure how big a part the prince will actually play compared to Rapunzel.

I’m a big Disney fan too, so I’ll bet here opening day!
