Batman Beyond #6

Well, the new Batman Beyond mini-series comes to it’s exciting conclusion in it’s sixth issue. Ok, so the finale wasn’t that exciting, and we kind of see it coming, and in issue form, it’s kind of “meh”. But as a trade paperback, I’m sure it’ll flow a lot better. I’m trying to give this review without any spoilers, but I guess at this point, if you’re not reading the series, you’re not interested.
I suppose I should just suffice it to say that it was a good six-issue run, and the ongoing series was certainly earned. I’m excited to see what they’re going to do with this as an ongoing, and how they’ll deal with continuity issues. It’s really apparent by about the third issue of the mini that they’re not following the current continuity of the comics. It’s kind of hard to, with an established continuity and universe coming from the television series. That said, it would be kind of nice if they tried to reconcile the two, or start fresh with the ongoing and say once and for all that it is in fact the future of the current continuity. Either way you’re going to alienate someone, so I guess they just made their choice and stuck with it, and you gotta give them props for that.
Hopefully they keep this team together for more than just the next story arc, as Ryan Benjamin is the perfect artist for the world that was created by the television series, and Adam Beechin managed to create a pretty compelling mystery for us to ponder. I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see…
